I saw this video just the other day. It is very funny, I certainly laughed, but at the same time is was very disturbing.
I encourage you to watch the video and – after you’ve stopped laughing – begin to think about your own hospital’s eHealth strategy, or lack thereof. The gap between what is possible in other industries using technology and what ePatients are permitted to do with eHealth will shrink or widen depending on what happens over the next few years.
Less than two years ago we were first introduced to the iPhone, yet we can already see its impact on our lives and the communications industry as a whole. If you look into the core values of “meaningful use”, you will find it is truly about engaging patients in their own healthcare. How is the healthcare industry going to do that? I’m sure there will be “an app for that” soon.
Maybe it’s we time we admit how Internet dependent we have become, and begin to think about how to give ePatients what they want.
